Original film ‘Tangled Up in Bob' to screen at Dylan Days 2006

HIBBING, Minn. ─ A documentary by acclaimed filmmaker Mary Feidt about Bob Dylan’s Hibbing years will screen at the 2006 Dylan Days event in Dylan’s hometown.

“Tangled Up in Bob” features bestselling author and creative writing teacher Natalie Goldberg in her journey to find the connection between Dylan and the place where he grew up. Along the way, she meets the characters that made up Dylan’s life in Hibbing and forms a special relationship with Dylan’s high school English teacher, B.J. Rolfzen. Rolfzen will be an honored guest at the screening. Feidt and Goldberg will introduce the film and answer questions.

The film will be shown at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 24 at the Hibbing Community College Theatre. An encore presentation will be shown at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 26, also at the HCC Theatre.

Dylan turns 65 this year, and his northeastern Minnesota hometown is celebrating with an exciting lineup of Dylan Days arts and entertainment activities from May 24-27.

In addition to the film, Dylan Days 2006 features a concert reuniting the band that played on Dylan’s critically-acclaimed masterpiece album “Blood on the Tracks Live.” Classic Dylan Days events will be back, such as literary night, the singer/songwriter contest, the Bobby Zimmerman bus tour of Hibbing, community displays and tributes throughout the week.

“Natalie (Goldberg) was our keynote speaker at literary night in 2005,” said Aaron J. Brown, Dylan Days co-chair. “She gave an incredible talk about the importance of place in writing and the influence Hibbing must have had on Bob Dylan. We’ve been working with Mary (Feidt) and Natalie for a while now and many Hibbingites look forward to seeing the resulting movie, which has already received national acclaim.”

After four years of growth as part of the Hibbing Area Chamber of Commerce, Dylan Days has spun into a not-for-profit group that seeks to enhance the arts community in Northern Minnesota in addition to conducting the annual event. Dylan Arts Celebration works with many community partners, including the schools, the city, the chamber of commerce and other artistic groups.
